Overview
Notability on iPhone has been updated to make typing, reading, and recording easier on a smaller screen. This update simplifies the interface and introduces Text-Only mode—without removing any of your content.
Not currently available in China Mainland.
New Toolbar
The main toolbar includes:
- Record button
- Insert menu
- Secondary tool drawer
Additional changes:
- Templates and template settings are hidden in Text-Only mode
Scrolling
- If a tool has been selected, use two fingers to scroll.
Text-Only Mode
Text-Only mode only displays text in a note, excluding templates and other content. It is a view option alongside Seamless and Single Page. Text-Only mode does not delete or remove content. All note content is preserved.
What you’ll see:
- Typed text only
- Narrower note width with reflowed text
What’s hidden:
- Drawings, images, shapes, and media
- Template backgrounds
Text-Only mode is used automatically when:
- New notes open in Text-Only mode if the default template is not a PDF
- Existing notes open in Text-Only mode if they:
- Contain no PDF pages, and
- Include only typed text (or no ink, images, or shapes)
Switching Views
- Changing the view saves your preference for the next time you open the note.
- Adding media or using drawing tools automatically switches the note back to Seamless view.
A brief message to confirm this view change will appear. This is to reassure you that no data has been lost.
