Some PDFs store content (such as images, form fields, or annotations) in a way that Notability can't display. This can cause filled form content to appear blurry, duplicated, or with misaligned checkboxes and dropdowns. Flattening the PDF before importing it into Notability resolves this in most cases.
On iPhone or iPad
You can flatten a PDF using PDF Expert, a free third-party app:
- Open the PDF in PDF Expert.
- Tap the share button and choose Flattened Copy.
- Share the flattened file to Notability.
On Mac
You can use the built-in Preview app to export a flattened copy:
- Open the PDF in Preview.
- Click File > Export as PDF from the menu bar.
- Choose a location to save the file and click Save.
- Import the new PDF into Notability.
