Add and Edit Media

Use the Add Media tool to take photos, scan documents, and add images to your note. Enrich your note with GIFs, stickers, and image playground. Insert sticky notes for quick reminders. 

Media can be placed and moved around anywhere on the note.

Overview

  1. Tap or click .
  2. A second menu will appear on the right-hand side:

Photos

  1. Select an image from Photos or Albums to add it to your note. 
  2. Select the camera icon in the bottom left to take a photo and add it to your note.
    1. Once added to the page, tap or click on the image to select it. 
    2. A menu will appear with the options to: 

      Crop, Duplicate, Cut, Copy, Locked Objects, Send Forward, Send Backward, and Delete.
    3. Select  threedots.jpeg for Format, Bring to Front, Send to Back, Fit to Page, Flip Vertically, Flip Horizontally, Convert to Ink
      • Format includes options to enable or disable captions, choose rounded or sharp corners, and enable or disable text wrap.

Locked Objects

Stickers, images, stickies, and GIFs can be locked on the page to prevent accidental movement or editing.

Locking a media object:

  1. Tap the object.
  2. Tap generalLock-sml-reg.svg.

The object will remain in place and cannot be moved or modified.

Unlocking a media object:

  1. Tap the locked object.
  2. Tap generalLock-sml-reg.svg again to unlock it.

Send Forward and Backward

Adjust the arrangement of overlapping images and stickers.

  1. Add an Image or Sticker 
  2. Select the Image or Sticker.
  3. Select to bring it forward or to move it backward.

Please note: GIFs can not be sent backward behind images and stickers at this time. 

Use Send Backward to Separate Ink from an Image

  1. Add an Image.
  2. Draw on the image.
  3. Tap on the image to select it and tap .
  4. Move the image and the ink will stay in place.

Document Scan

  1. Tap , then select Photos media icon.png from the menu that appears
     
  2. Use document scan.png to scan a document and add it to your note.
  3. Tap the shutter button to scan and adjust the corners to set the perimeter of the document.
  4. Select Save to add the document(s) to your note as a PDF.

Stickers

  1. Tap or click toolbox-stickers-outline.svg to add a sticker to your note.
  2. Tap on a sticker pack and tap Select to add multiple stickers at once or add stickers to your Favorites. 
    • Home: Alphabetical list of stickers.
    • Recents: Stickers that you used last.
    • Favorites: Stickers that you favorited.
    • My Stickers: Stickers that you created by grouping handwritten elements as a sticker.
  3. Once added to the page, tap or click on the sticker to select it.
    •  
      • From the menu:

        Crop, Duplicate, Cut, Copy, Locked Objects, Send Forward, Send Backward, and Delete.
      • Select  threedots.jpeg for Format, Bring to Front, Send to Back, Fit to Page, Flip Vertically, Flip Horizontally, Convert to Ink

                                  

GIFs 

  1. Search through toolbox-gif-outline.svg and choose ones to add to your note. 
    • Once added to the page, tap or click on the GIF to select it.
      •  
        • From the menu:

          Crop, Lock Object, Duplicate, Cut, and Delete.
        • Select  threedots.jpeg for FormatFit to Page, Flip Vertically, Flip Horizontally, and Disable Text Wrap. 

Sticky Notes 

  1. Tap or click toolboxStickies-outline.svg.
  2. Tap or click on blank, rule, grid, and dot sticky notes to add to your note.
  3. Use Pen, Pencil, or Highlighter to write on the sticky notes—when you move the sticky note, what you wrote will move with it.
  4. Tap on the sticky note and adjust the corners to shrink or expand the size of the sticky note. 
    • Tip: Make the sticky note smaller when you need more space on the page! 
       

Image Playground 

Bring your ideas to life by using your photo library, text, and creativity to design styled images.

  1. Tap or click , then select Image Playground from the menu that appears.
  2. Create an image by:
    • Tapping on a concept: Choose from suggestions, themes, expressions, costumes, accessories, or places.
    • Using a description: Tap on "Describe an Image" and type your description.
    • Using an image of a person: Create an image based on someone from your library.
    • Using any photo: Upload or take a photo.
  3.  To adjust the Image Style tap Style and choose from Animation or Illustration.
    • To explore different versions of an image, tap the preview bubble and swipe left.
  4.  Tap Done in the top-right corner to save image it to your note.

Please note: Image Playground is available on iOS 18.2 or later and works with the following devices:
 

  • iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPad with an A17 Pro or M1 chip and newer
  • Macs with an M1 chip or newer

*Apple Intelligence must be enabled via Device Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Apple Intelligence.

Rotating Media

While using any tool except for the Navigate tool, tap a media object and use the rotation handle to rotate.
