Sorting and Moving Notes (iOS)


Organizing notes is an important aspect of note-taking. Notability's Library lets you sort notes into logical groups using subjects and dividers. There are three levels for organizing things:

  • Notes are your individual files.
  • Subjects can be used to group notes together.
  • Divider can be used to  group subjects together.

Making a subject

  1. Tap .
  2. Tap "Create Subject".
  3. Type a name for the subject.
  4. Tap "Done" on the keyboard.

Making a divider

  1. Tap .
  2. Tap "Create Divider".
  3. Type a name for the divider.
  4. Tap "Done" on the keyboard.

Moving notes into subjects

  1. Tap and hold on a note thumbnail.
  2. Drag the thumbnail over a subject.
  3. Let go of the thumbnail to drop it into the subject.

On iPad, you can move notes in bulk.

  1. Tap "Edit".
  2. Tap notes to select them.
  3. Tap and hold on one of the note thumbnails.
  4. Drag the thumbnail to a subject to move the selected notes.

Sorting notes

Within a subject, you can sort notes in several ways.

  1. Open a subject.
  2. Scroll above the first note in the subject to reveal the sort options.
    • Name
    • Modified Date
    • Created Date

Duplicating notes

  1. Press and hold on a note's name.
  2. Tap the "Duplicate" button that appears.

Deleting notes

  1. Swipe from right to left on a note's name.
  2. Tap the red trash can button that appears.
