Importing Microsoft Office Files

Notability can't open Microsoft Office files directly, so it uses Google Drive to turn them into PDFs. If you prefer not to convert files through Google Drive, you can open a file in another app (like Keynote or Pages), export the file as a PDF, and open the PDF in Notability.
