Note Security

You can create a password to lock Subjects within Notability.

A Subject password will automatically sync between iOS and Mac even if you don't sync notes across devices.

To lock a Subject (iPad & iPhone):

  • From the note Library, tap "Edit".
    • On iPhone: Tap note-btn-subjectList.svg and then tap "Edit" in the top left corner.
  • Tap lib-btn-settings.svg next to the Subject you want to edit.
  • Toggle ON the "Lock Subject" option.

To lock a Subject (Mac):

  • From the note Library, right-click on a Subject.
    • If you are viewing a note and do not see your Subjects list, click note-lib-view.svg.
  • Click "Edit" from the menu that appears.
  • Toggle ON the "Lock Subject" option.

Notability supports your device's Face ID, Touch ID, or Passcode.

To turn this feature on, go to Notability Settings > Password tab.

  • If you need to reset your password, you can select "Reset Password" in this tab.

You can also enable Face ID, Touch ID, or Passcode to override your current password and gain access to a locked Subject.

At the moment, it's not possible to password-protect an individual note OR for access to the entire app. If you'd like to vote for those features, check out this link.
