General

Where to Purchase & Compatible Platforms

Notability is available for purchase in Apple's App Store.

Subscriptions are licensed and limited to your Apple ID.

We continually update our software to take advantage of Apple's latest operating systems. Sometimes, that means leaving older and outdated OS's behind, and we're now compatible with iOS 15+ and macOS 12+ (Big Sur & Monterey) only.

Using Notability with Multiple Devices

Notability can be used on iPad, Mac, and iPhone.

After you purchase Notability, you can download it on as many devices as you like. If a device is logged into the Apple ID you used to purchase Notability, the app will be available for free in your device's list of purchased apps.

If it looks like the App Store will charge you again, these steps may nudge it into order:

  • Log out of the App Store.
  • Restart your device.
  • Log back into the App Store.

If the version of Notability you're downloading is in your purchase history, tapping or clicking the button to buy Notability will make the App Store check your history, see that you bought the app, and download it for free. If that doesn't help, contact Apple Support

You can sync notes across multiple devices through iCloud.

Classic (Legacy) Users

Everyone who purchased Notability prior to our switch to subscription on November 1, 2021 is a Classic user.

Classic users have lifetime access to all existing features and any content previously purchased in the app. This includes unlimited editing, iCloud Sync, Auto-Backup, and any features or content (planners, stickers, Handwriting Conversion, etc) that was previously purchased through the Notability Shop. Future features we develop may also be included, depending on their complexity and cost to maintain.

If a Classic user subscribes to the Plus Plan and it expires, then the grandfathered users are downgraded back to the Classic plan and will have access to any previously purchased content and features before the 11.0 update.

Edit Limits

Edits are directly tied to your usage of the app and are counted as any changes you make in a session like handwriting, erasing, or adding text or media.

Recording and modifying audio do not count as edits nor does adding or moving notes/pages.

If you're using the free version of the app, you will be given an editing allowance each month. You can track the status of your remaining edits in the settings menu, and at any point can choose to subscribe to unlock unlimited editing.

To View Remaining Edits

In your Library > settings icon.png > Subscription > Tap on the circle icon in the Notability Starter section under Current Plan.
