Notes Disappear After Signing Out of Apple Account

If you sign out of your Apple Account before Notability has finished syncing to iCloud, your data may be evicted. This can happen if your iCloud storage is full or if you sign out before the upload completes.

Recovering your data

There are a few ways you may be able to recover lost notes:

  • Auto-Backup: If you have Auto-Backup enabled, check there first.
  • Time Machine (Mac only): If you have a Mac connected to iCloud with a Time Machine backup, your notes may be stored there. To check, open Terminal via Spotlight Search or Launchpad and run this command:

open ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/ZP9ZJ4EF3S~com~gingerlabs~Notability

Preventing data loss

  • Enable Auto-Backup so your notes are regularly backed up.
  • If you prefer not to use Auto-Backup, export your notes manually on a regular basis.
  • Before signing out of your Apple Account, make sure Notability has finished syncing.
