If you see blank or missing images in your notes, several factors could be causing this issue, such as outdated app versions, insufficient device or iCloud storage, or network connectivity problems.
Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Update Software & Check Storage
Ensure both Notability and your device's iOS are up to date. Then, check your device and iCloud storage (at least 5-10 GB free space recommended). Verify that you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network, as weak connections can interfere with syncing notes and cause missing images. Avoid using VPNs or cellular networks during syncing.
2. Restore from iCloud Version History
If iCloud Sync is enabled, try restoring a previous version of your note.
-
On iOS:
- In the Notes list, press and hold the name of the note.
- Select "iCloud Version History" from the menu.
- Select the version you want to restore; it will be added as a new note.
-
On Mac:
- In the Notes list, right-click on the note's name.
- Select "iCloud Version History."
- Select the version you want to recover.
- Select "Recover"; the recovered version will be added as a new note.
3. Use Auto-Backup
If Auto-Backup was enabled in Notability, you can import copies of your notes from your backup service.
4. Check Time Machine Backup (Mac Users)
For Mac users with Time Machine backups enabled, you can retrieve notes from the backup.
-
To Locate Notes in Time Machine Navigate to:
- ~/Library/Mobile Documents/ZP9ZJ4EF3S~com~gingerlabs~Notability and look for your notes in the backup.
5. If the steps above don’t fix the issue, you may need to re-add the missing images manually.
Please Note: Notability does not store your notes on its servers. Your notes are saved either on your device or in a Cloud service you've set up.
