Overview
Learn is an AI tool that makes studying simple and quick. It automatically creates summaries, quizzes, flashcards, and fill-in-the-blanks from your notes, PDFs, or recordings, letting you focus on learning with less effort.

How to Use Learn
- Open a note or PDF.
- Tap
in the top right corner.
- Review the summary that pops up, or copy
it into your notes.
- Tap Study to begin studying.
- The default study method is set to quizzes. To change this tap
and choose from Auto, Show only Quiz, Show only Flashcards, Show only Fill in the Blanks. or Mix and Match (iOS).
- The Auto option will guide you through all study tools, starting with a summary, then generating a quiz, followed by flashcards, and finishing with fill-in-the-blank exercises.
- The default study method is set to quizzes. To change this tap
Using Flashcards
- Tap on a flashcard to reveal the answer.
- Choose
if you know the answer.
Fill in the Blanks
- Write or type your answer.
- Tap Check Answer to see the correct answer.
- Choose
if you got the answer correct.
- To delete an answer, tap
.
Taking a Quiz
- During the quiz, you will see which answers are correct or incorrect.
- You can Skip a question or go back to the Previous one.
- Share a quiz after it's been completed. Quiz content may differ from the original.
Mix and Match
- Tap a word and its matching definition or drag a word to the right definition.
- Correct matches will turn green and will add the next word and definition.
At the end, tap Continue to keep studying, as new and harder questions will be generated.
Live Transcripts (Pro)
- Record audio from lectures, meetings, or your voice, and watch your live transcripts generate automatically. Learn more here.
Smart Notes (Pro)
- Smart notes give you a summary of your notes with real-time updates as you work. Learn more here.
Chat with your Note (Pro)
- Chat with your note to ask questions and get answers instantly. Learn more here.
Recent Score
The recent score appears in the bottom left corner after tapping .
Explanations
In quizzes, explanations provide helpful information about the subject directly within your study experience.
- Tap
Explain this to view the explanation window.
Action Items (Pro)
Action items will be generated automatically from the content in your notes.
Language Selector
There are two ways to change the Learn language.
1. Tap within a Note > Note Info > Handwriting Language
2. From the Library tap > Learn > Default Language
FAQ
How does Notability handle my data when using the Learn feature?
We do not use your data to train AI systems or Large Language Models (LLMs). We never access your notes unless you give us explicit permission or it's required by law, and we do not sell your data. For more details, you can view our full privacy policy here.
Why can't I see or use Learn?
Learn is only available to Notability Plus and Pro subscribers. Ensure you are on our most recent app version if you are running into any issues.
Learn is also not available on managed devices (MDM). If you would find this feature useful, please have your IT Admin reach out to edusupport@gingerlabs.com
What is the difference in Learn usage between the Plus and Pro tiers?
At this time, the Plus tier includes a total of 400 questions and flashcards combined. Should you need additional access, the Pro tier has unlimited usage.
Why isn't a quiz being generated?
The content must be at least 250 words but should not exceed approximately 20,000 words.
After importing a PDF, Learn shows "No study material, yet." How can I troubleshoot this?
The PDF file may need to be converted to a searchable format through a third-party website.
Can I export a quiz or add it to my notes?
Currently, exporting a quiz or adding it to a note is not available.
Can I select multiple notes to create a quiz?
Not at this time - a quiz can only be created with one note.
How is the flashcard score determined?
The score is determined by counting the skipped or unknown terms as incorrect and known terms as correct.
Which languages are supported?
Learn will automatically detect the input language and generate a summary or quiz in that language.
How can I turn off Learn?
Navigate to Notability Settings > AI Customization > toggle Learn.
In which regions is the Learn feature available?
This feature is available in all regions except China Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Why am I being asked to complete a survey?
Your input about how you use Notability helps us create better community content.
I am having issues with Learn, what should I do to troubleshoot?
Ensure you are on the latest Notability app version and update your app if you are not via the app store. Additionally, ensure you are on the most recent OS version on the device you are using. Other small things you can do to troubleshoot are closing and reopening your app, restarting your device, and making sure you have enough ram available to ensure optimal performance.
